On May 15, 2025, under the organization of the Propaganda Department of the Yangxin County Committee, a unique cultural exchange event between sister cities took place at the “Watery Charm Ancient Street” Museum in Shuiluopo Town. The event specially invited Konishi Shoei from Japan and Isaline from France to visit and immerse themselves in the distinctive charm of traditional Chinese culture.
The “Watery Charm Ancient Street” Museum covers an area of approximately 6,700 square meters, with a building area of 2,800 square meters. Centered around the theme of "Xi's Sayings," the museum is guided by the principle of “letting cultural relics speak, letting history speak, and letting culture speak,” linking together 17 themed micro-museums. Along both sides of the museum’s water system, a recreated ancient street featuring old objects particularly catches the eye: rusty iron anvils, ceramic wine jars, wooden tea tables, and other items are neatly displayed. Despite the absence of performers, the authentic setting vividly outlines the texture of life in an ancient trading town.
Walking into the ancient street, in the porcelain and currency museum, visitors are drawn to exquisite ancient ceramics with their delicate patterns and vibrant colors. The currencies from different eras serve like keys, unlocking insights into ancient economic societies. In the museum of weights and measures, a variety of measurement tools reveal the ancients’ pursuit of precision and standards. The Zhang Family Mansion Museum, through restored home furnishings and precious artifacts, paints a picture of life in a wealthy household of ancient times.
During the visit, the foreign guests often paused to discuss in front of exhibits or to capture details with their cameras. Pointing at an old abacus in the Folk Life Pavilion, Isaline from France remarked, “These tools may look ordinary, but they actually reflect the calculation wisdom of the ancients—very interesting.” Konishi Shoei from Japan was particularly intrigued by the grain store model in the street scene. “Through the weighing of grains and the display of goods, you can really imagine the lively atmosphere of an ancient market,” she said.
This event not only deepened the foreign guests’ understanding of traditional Chinese culture but also built a new bridge for international cultural exchange. In the future, Yangxin County will continue to leverage its rich cultural resources to host more diverse cultural exchange activities, bringing Chinese culture to the world.
